Week in review for 7/23-7/29

July 29th, 2007

Hello all! I hope this week has found you well. It has been another very busy week here at Flutterby Gifts. I hadn’t in my wildest dreams thought that the give away would be as popular as it was and I was touched and quite pleasantly surprised to receive 262 entrants! This week has also been a great busy time in the sewing room. I’ve been continuing to work on the quilts I’ve talked about in earlier posts, though I’ve been halted by the breakdown of our washing machine! I have been doing mostly cutting the fabrics so nothing sewn down just yet to take pictures of. Rest assured once I’ve got some of the squares done I’ll happy do a post here for you. The website got some updates this week. I added the new “grow skirt” and the batik peasant skirt to the site. (they can be found here) I also decided after much thought that it may be easier if the overalls and poncho were on a different page than the skirts. I do hope this makes them easier to find as they now have their own page (found here) The soap page also got some new additions. “summer waves” and “cucumber melon” have been added. (can be found here

Coming up this week I’m working on the next in the “Earth Air Fire Water” skirt series. The next skirt is the “Water” skirt. I’m a sucker for blues so I am so excited for this skirt! I think is going to be so pretty. More new soaps are on their way to the “shelves” they are: ”Summer’s breeze” (a tantalizing blend of roasted coconut and berry) English rose, Grapefruit Lily and “Cold water” (a very nice light unisexual scent)  Also in the works is a Soap sale!!! I’m very pleased to have noticed that my soap shelves are getting full and in need of empting, so in the summer spirit I want to get things moving! The sale will start on Monday August 6th and last through that entire week. All soaps will be on sale so mark your calendars.

I’ve been tossing a few important topics around in my head and want to get them down so I’m hoping that I can blog on those topics this upcoming week.

Dog days of Summer give away

July 23rd, 2007

I’ll keep this short and sweet. This is the appropriate place to leave comments to sign up to possibly win our fabulous prizes! What are the prizes you ask?

*A bar of soap and solid lotion in “Summer waves” fragrance

*A bar of soap and solid lotion in “Summer waves” fragrance

*A bar of soap and solid lotion in “Cucumber melon” fragrance

*A bar of soap and solid lotion in “Cucumber melon” fragrance

*A 2oz container of Lavender baby bum balm.

Signing up is quite simple! Just leave a comment letting me know which item you’d like to win best; and the winners shall be drawn on Friday the 27th.. The items will only be shipped within the USA. I do apologize to our international bloggers. Enjoy! The complete list of all the bloggers participating in the give away can be found here

*As an aside: It seems that people have been finding both the give away entry that is meant for leaving comments to enter the give away, and the blog I wrote stating that I was interested in participating in the give away. People are leaving two notes requesting to “be added” or “throw their name in”. One on each entry. That doesn’t quite work, so I had to go through for a few hours and delete multiple comments. If you see that your comment has been removed, it is absolutely nothing personal its just that the entry titles are so very similar (my bad…) that I would most likely accidentally count both requests and that’s not fair. So please leave all comments to “throw your name in the ring” on this entry and NOT on the older one. Thanks so very very much for your understanding, I wasn’t expecting such an interest!

Bath and body fragrances

July 17th, 2007

Last week I ordered a few new fragrance oils along with some that were just reorders of things I knew I needed and had run out of. Fragrance oils go in soaps and other body products to make them smell good. Now, I order pretty much everything I need from the internet because the selection can’t be beat. Trying to buy fragrances however can be SUCH a hit and miss sort of thing. This time I got rather lucky though and came up with some great scents. The sense of smell is one of the strongest links to memory, and so that’s always the first thing I go to when I’m looking into a new scent. I ended up getting a “Grapefruit Lily” fragrance which I am in LOVE with (though a few others really don’t like it) a rose fragrance that really isn’t very good (sadly) a “cucumber melon” which is awesome and what I’m calling my “Summer waves.”

Naming a fragrance is always interesting because you need to convey the smell through words. Especially when selling over the internet. The name isn’t so important when you are face to face with someone interested in buying, they can smell it themselves and know if they like it or not.

The new fragrance “summer waves” came to me because when I close my eyes and sniff it, it just reminds me of sitting on the beach under an umbrella, with a nice breeze going by and watching the waves crash the sand. Now, the scent actually is very high energy and fruity but to me, fruity drinks go with the beach and the waves! I am so glad I found out about the “Dog days of summer” give away because it corresponds with my launch of these new fragrances perfectly.

“Grapefruit Lily” just makes me smile. It fills me with both of my favorite scents. Citrus and floral! The sweet high tangy notes of grapefruit mix so well with the low sweet smell of the Lily. I think they got it perfect. It goes really wonderfully in the solid lotion bars.

Cucumber melon was an easy one and really required no name from me. That’s what it smells like, cucumber and melon! Its got such a nice sweet sugary tinge to it. I think the creators of the fragrance got the sugariness of honeydew melon perfectly.

I do have a few things coming up in the sewing world that are almost surprising me with how great they’re turning out but I’ll leave talk of sewing for another day! For now I’m going to go and get ready to make some soap and get everything ready for this give away!
