Weekly review for 7/29-8/5

August 6th, 2007

Hello all! Yet another busy week. *whew*

Most of the work has been in preparation for the soap sale but that moved along quickly so I had plenty of time to use up some of my creative juices on the sewing machine. I got some work done on the three quilts I’m working on currently as well as the “water” skirt. I can’t seem to move fast enough for my liking on the quilts they are just so darn cute I want them done already! Pictures you say? Well I think we can arrange that!

This is the pattern for the twin sized quilts that I’m working on, should give you an idea of what its going to look like…sort of…mabye?

This is the green schemed quilt that I’m working on, in the middle of the pattern you can see that there is a larger space for the name and here it is.

And then in pink.

This is the baby quilt and its a different style and the twin. I’m just beside myself with how cute this is turning out!

and last but not least picture is the close up of the applique on the “Water skirt”

I also finally some new things done on the website. I am very pleased to be able to check these things off my “to do” list. One is a new page for the quilts that I’m working on. While I’m not offering them for sale JUST yet I do have a gallery so that people can see what its going to look like and watch as I update the projects I’m working on right now as I go. The other page is the instruction page for the Snugglebug carriers. That has been a long time coming and I am so pleased with how it looks now.

I’m extremely excited about this weeks Super soap sale! Its Flutterby Gifts very first sale! The great thing about it is that Mushroom Tree diapers has chosen this time to launch their “Grand opening” to correspond with our sale! I got everything loaded onto the site today. We’ve been waiting on this and working very hard to make it happen. I couldn’t be more proud to offer Jill’s wonderful diapers on my site. All of her diapers are made from reclaimed materials, old shirts, pants sweatshirts ect go into this awesome mamas gear. I just love her innovation not to mention the diapers are so cute! I have to keep reminding myself that I have no children to buy those diapers for and just steer myself clear of that area of the page. *giggles*

Ok folks, I’m off to bed, its getting late. I can’t wait to see what this upcoming week brings!

Super soap sale!!

August 5th, 2007

Coming up on Monday the 6th we’re having a soap sale. Its the very first sale ever in Flutterby Gifts history! I’m very excited and have been working extra hard all week to get ready. We’re launching a new soap recipe for all our soaps and I couldn’t be prouder. While no soap is truly “new” (come on! Humans have been making soap FOREVER!!!) this recipe is my very own and I have gone through many attempts to finally come to this one. Its gentle, soft, soothing and made mostly from Olive oil. I hope you enjoy the sale as much as I have enjoyed making it. It will be ending on Sat. Aug 11th so keep that in mind.

Make it from scratch Carnival

July 24th, 2007

Just a quick note to give some link love to the carnival! Bridgets place hosted and did a lovely job, as did everyone who submitted such great stuff!! I entered my blog on finishing my quilt. Its kind of difficult to still have posts over at blogspot when I’ve moved here, but I am just so proud of that quilt that I couldn’t let that stop me. So give some love, these people worked hard!

*As an aside about the give away: It seems that people have been finding both the give away entry that is meant for leaving comments to enter the give away, and the blog I wrote stating that I was interested in participating in the give away. People are leaving two notes requesting to “be added” or “throw their name in”. One on each entry. That doesn’t quite work, so I had to go through for a few hours and delete multiple comments. If you see that your comment has been removed, it is absolutely nothing personal its just that the entry titles are so very similar (my bad…) that I would most likely accidentally count both requests and that’s not fair. So please leave all comments to “throw your name in the ring” on this entry and NOT on the older one. Thanks so very very much for your understanding, I wasn’t expecting such an interest!

Growth

July 20th, 2007

This week has been hectic to say the least. I’ve been very busy getting used to my “new digs” (this blog here!) and opening up to the idea of being more successful and more creative. My work with the store has gone in waves, up and down and very inconsistent. I want to change that and resolved to do so recently. So I’ve made changes to reflect that. I started by putting myself on a “work schedule”. I am now thinking more in terms of expanding into new designs, new ideas and new places. As I looked over my skirts I noticed it was well past time for a new design. I sat out in my garden (a rather sad place as I live in record breaking Phoenix AZ and my plants can hardly stand it!) and looked at some of my new sprouts, trying so hard to push through. An idea started to turn in my head. I got an image of a sprout appliquéd on a skirt front and I moved forward from there.

I wanted something simple, nothing too outlandish; after all…a sprout is a humble thing. I wanted the whole skirt to be a solid color, with some patchwork highlights. I also wanted to try a new fabric, move away from my tried and true calico cotton. I felt that the earth had inspired me and that moved into the idea for an elements set of skirts. So first will come the earth skirt, next is the water, followed by fire and last but not least air.

I thought that maybe a message might be nice…but what should it say? What does the earth say? Leave it to life to smack you in the face with something perfect. “Grow” I find that I grow in spurts, moving quickly and rapidly, and then settling to absorb it all. Right now I’m in the middle of a growth spurt and couldn’t be happier. I am filled with pride to look at my store. I love to see my ideas come to fruition and work with a fervor to get things completed. When its done the whole world around me knows because its all I can talk about! I truly love what I’m doing and it makes me so very happy. I shall shout it to the roof tops. I wish this love for everyone. It really isn’t work at all, almost feels odd to call it “work”.

With all the growth comes more responsibility. I honor that and have started to make changes to my clothes to match my commitment to quality. Everything is now being pre-shrunk in eco friendly home made laundry detergent. I’ve moved my sewing supplies and crafting space into a smoke free, cat free room. (though we do own cats so I can’t make it “cat proof” just that no cats are allowed in my craft room)  I feel good about the changes that are being made and I’m sure that I’m going to continue to be proud of whats to come.

I simply can’t wait to show you the new skirt. For those that are wondering, my Wordless Wednesday picture was a little glimpse at the work I’ve done on the Earth skirt. It’s a labor of love and inspiration. Its true to its name…”grow”
