While reading through my blog roll tonight I stumbled upon a site thats new to me. “The Silly Wagon” is a very cool store which seems to offer quite alot from different folks. I particularly was intrested in their section of wooden toys (mind you I am a SUCKER for wooden toys!) they look so very well made, creative, safe and timless. Then I found out via their blog that the wooden toys are made by a community of physically and mentally challenged folks.
(quoted from their blog about “pastel toys”) “A not-for-profit organization, has established a village and home for adults with special needs. Within the framework of the work and rehabilitation programs various branches of employment have been established, allowing the residents to acquire skills in different types of work. Buying a toy from Pastel Toys carpentry helps the residents to be self-sustaining, enhances their self-esteem, while improving their skills, and supports the development of the Village.”
That is a huge selling point for me. 1. I love supporting and buying things that don’t require batterys, and 2. supporting artists that are supporting eachother and live in a community setting, well I simply couldn’t keep it to myself! So stop on by and tell them I sent ya.

Hello all! I hope this week has found you well. It has been another very busy week here at Flutterby Gifts. I hadn’t in my wildest dreams thought that the give away would be as popular as it was and I was touched and quite pleasantly surprised to receive 262 entrants! This week has also been a great busy time in the sewing room. I’ve been continuing to work on the quilts I’ve talked about in earlier posts, though I’ve been halted by the breakdown of our washing machine! I have been doing mostly cutting the fabrics so nothing sewn down just yet to take pictures of. Rest assured once I’ve got some of the squares done I’ll happy do a post here for you. The website got some updates this week. I added the new “grow skirt” and the batik peasant skirt to the site. (they can be found here) I also decided after much thought that it may be easier if the overalls and poncho were on a different page than the skirts. I do hope this makes them easier to find as they now have their own page (found here) The soap page also got some new additions. “summer waves” and “cucumber melon” have been added. (can be found here)
Coming up this week I’m working on the next in the “Earth Air Fire Water” skirt series. The next skirt is the “Water” skirt. I’m a sucker for blues so I am so excited for this skirt! I think is going to be so pretty. More new soaps are on their way to the “shelves” they are: ”Summer’s breeze” (a tantalizing blend of roasted coconut and berry) English rose, Grapefruit Lily and “Cold water” (a very nice light unisexual scent) Also in the works is a Soap sale!!! I’m very pleased to have noticed that my soap shelves are getting full and in need of empting, so in the summer spirit I want to get things moving! The sale will start on Monday August 6th and last through that entire week. All soaps will be on sale so mark your calendars.
I’ve been tossing a few important topics around in my head and want to get them down so I’m hoping that I can blog on those topics this upcoming week.

I know I had promised quite a few days ago that I would show you the finished “grow” skirt. Time got away from me but its finished now and I have a few minits to finally get it posted here and to the site. I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out. I was aprehensive to try something new but I really think its paid off and this skirt is super cute.
The skirt is made from a %100 cotton twill which is a nice heavy weight but still airy enough for all seasons. The patchwork wraps all the way around the entire skirt and all seams are serged for strength and durablity. I’m so proud of this that I really wish I was keeping it!

I was inspired by the four elements and plan on making three other skirts of this type. This skirt was inspired by “earth”. I used greens and browns and thought about a little sprout growing up out of the ground. The earth skirt will be available on the website in the clothing section. Keep checking back for the rest of the skirts, “water” will be up next.
The other skirt that is getting added to the site is a batik peasent skirt. I was so happy when I found this batik material at the fabric store, I snatched it up right away! I think the colors are so pretty together!
It comes down to about the mid-calf (aprox. 32in long) made from %100 cotton dyed in blues, purples, dark pink and green. The hem is nice and wide for dancing and prancing! I was really worried about how it was going to come together, and if the fabric would look good in the style but I really think is does.
